Box Breathing is One of the Best Breathing Exercises…And You Can Make It So Much Better
Outside the Box Breathing Covers Both Basic and Advanced Methods for Deep Relaxation, Building Lung Capacity, Vibrant Energy, Feeling Centered and More
I like to call breathing one of the foundational foundations. While there is a whole lot that goes into being truly healthy, nothing is so foundational as your breath.
You can go for weeks without eating food, days without drinking water, yet for most people not even a couple of minutes without breathing!
Throughout the course of your day you breathe in 30 pounds of air...far more than you eat or drink.
Breath is so Fundamental...that Most People Neglect It!
Some say, “I’m already breathing, therefore what more could I possibly do?” It turns out a whole lot!
If you’re dealing with:
- Daily Fatigue
- Cloudy Thinking
- Sluggish Metabolism
- Poor Sleep
- Anxiety or Depression
- Or Get Winded Climbing a Flight of Stairs
…then chances are your habitual breathing is messed up!
While deep breathing exercises are far from a cure-all, why not start at something that is quite simple to work with and requires zero equipment nor expensive food or supplements?
What is Box Breathing?
There’s a good chance you’ve heard of box breathing. Perhaps you’ve practiced it. At its most basic, it goes like this...
- Inhale for four seconds
- Hold your breath for four seconds
- Exhale for four seconds
- Hold your breath for four seconds
- And repeat over and over again.
If you’ve never tried this before, go ahead and stop to do this for a minute, just four breaths, to try it out right now. I’ll wait...
Good! How do you feel? A bit more relaxed and calm? Centered? That’s what most people will feel with this technique. And that was just in one minute!
This is how box breathing is commonly taught and the main benefit this variety brings.
Unfortunately, for many people that’s the extent of it... But this merely scratches the surface.
With Slight Tweaks and Changes to Box Breathing You Can Do a Whole Lot More...
There are variations of box breathing that help you to enter an even deeper relaxation and meditative state.
There are variations of box breathing that build your lung capacity greatly.
There are variations of box breathing that squeeze your lungs like a sponge, stretching your breathing capacity. (This even massages other organs with a combination of another favorite breathing technique of mine!)
There are specific ways to improve endurance through box breathing.
And then we really get outside the box…
Unlock Your Ideal and Personalized Breath Patterns
The 4-count box breathing is just a starting point! Once you understand the concepts of cadence and speed, and how each person is an individual that requires something different, you can find the breathing pattern that is ideally suited to you.
This has to do with how breathing can hack into your nervous and hormones systems...including how they are setup for you individually. And it does change from person to person!
This will take some practice and experimentation, but it can be done...
What if you could find one or two breathing exercises that were ideal just for you?!?
One breath that energizes you in a big way.
One breath that relaxes and calms your entire system.
The truth is there are thousands of possible breathing exercises once you understand the key of cadence. Different ones are great for different purposes.
Recode Your Habitual Breathing
Box breathing is also the ideal vehicle to understand the foundational principles of breathing.
Working with these you’ll alter your habitual breathing patterns for the better. This’ll help you to achieve:
- Radiant Health
- Vibrant Energy
- Easy, Restful Sleep
- Improved Mental Clarity
- Stable Mood
Again, it’s not a cure-all...but it is fundamental.
The basics are the basics. Neglect them at your own risk!
As I said, these exercises that I cover inside Outside the Box Breathing are uniquely suited to help you deeply understand the principles behind ALL breathwork. And when these are actualized into your life, watch out!
How Breathwork Gave Me Super Powers
Long ago, when I was weak, scrawny and unathletic I got my true start in physical culture with deep breathing exercises.
I knew only the tiniest fraction about breathing as I do now. But it was starting with this base that began to reshape myself into the healthy strongman that I am today. (Similar to how the Mighty Atom, George Jowett, Maxick and many others did...)
Breath is key to lifting over one thousand pounds shown here.
Breath is key to snatching a 106 lb. kettlebell 91 times in ten minutes shown here. Breath is key for everything I do.
Over the years I’ve continually experimented with breathing exercises to unlock greater and greater ability.
Because the truth is that breath is a key to unlocking superpowers!
What about you?
The Key is to Do It!
What if it only took five minutes a day a few times per week to excel with your breath?
I’ll be showing you a variety of ways to program Outside the Box Breathing into your training plan and life.
There’s the slow and easy approach for those that want to take it that way, where all you need to do is ten or fifteen minutes per week.
Then there’s the gung-ho approach for those that want to master this quick. You can do much more and progress faster if you want.
And everything in between.
